Weinberg Service Projects

Zonta Club of Hilo has been taking part in the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation Weinberg Friends Program for a dozen years.  When we finish this year’s project in April, the sweat equity of Hilo Zontians will have brought $130,000 to non-profit organizations in ou r
community. Each year, at least 25 Zontians work on a service project. When we complete it, Weinberg Foundation gives $10,000 to a non-profit of our choice.   Here’s the history:

2011 — Neighborhood Place of Puna. Cleanup/fixup, toiletry packets. — $10,000 Grant  to Neighborhood Place of Puna
2010 — Neighborhood Place of Puna.  Cleanup/fixup; toiletry kits; e ducational posters.  — $10,000 Grant To Neighborhood Place of Puna to help clients meet basic needs
2009 — Hale Ohana Domestic Abuse Shelter.  Cleanup/fix up, inside and out; toiletry kits. — $10,000 Grant To Hale Ohana for site prep and purchase of 40-foot storage container
2008 — Hale Ohana Domestic Abuse Shelter.  Cleanup/fix up, inside and out; toiletry kits. — $10,000 Grant To Hale Ohana for security & sanitation projects
2007 — YWCA of Hawaii Island. Cleanup/fix up inside and out.  — $10,000 Grant To Goodwill Industries for vocational rehab computer equipment
2006 — Neighborhood Place of Puna. Cleanup/fixup and toiletry packets for families in need.  — $10,000 Grant To Hawaii County Economic Opportunity Council for leadership development among young women
2005 — East Hawaii Coalition for the Homeless. Make and install rods/curtains for 32 windows at emergency shelter; prove hygiene kits; cleaning; gardening; food donations — $10,000 Grant To Child & Family Service for playground equipment at domestic abuse shelter
2004 — Hilo Bay Clinic breast health awareness packets; week and trim gardens — $10,000 Grant To Big Island Coalition Against Physical and Sexual Assault
2003 — Hawaii Island Adult Care. Cleaning, newsletter work, gardening — $10,000 Grant To Turning Point for Families to assist victims of domestic violence
2002 — Hilo Bay Clinic, collating, painting, garden work, home deliveries — $10,000 Grant To Hawaii County Police/Hawaii Alliance for Community Health for brochure/card on domestic violence safe place.
2001 — UH Komohana Ag Complex, clean, organize; weed & plant native & sustainable         garden — $10,000 Grant To Sex Abuse Resource & Advocacy Services  (SARAS) of Kapiolani Medical Center
2000 — American Heart Association. Prepared information packets. Staffed table at the mall to distribute info about AHA’s Women’s Health Conference — $10,000 Grant To Bay Clinic
1999 — Hoolako, the Interfaith Clearinghouse. Sorted clothes and household items for distribution to agencies — $10,000 Grant To Hoolako
